Why would you want a Gmail Account :

1. It is free.
2. Tremendous space offered – 7.2GB and counting.
3. You can use the extra space to store your files.
4. You can get access to other Google services like Blogger, Google Reader etc.
5. Complete security.

The first step is to create a GMail account……..

1. Go to

http://mail.google.com/mail/signup

Create a GmailAccount

2. Under :

Get started with Gmail

Fill in your First Name and Last Name

Fill in Desired Login Name and click Check availability button.

(your username must be between 6 and 30 characters long.)

If not available modify until you get an available name.

Type in a password and reenter it in the field below.

(Password should be Minimum of 8 characters in length.)

Use a password made of letters and numbers and other characters like # $ % etc.

Create your password first in a Notepad file and save it under an innocuous name.

Then simply copy and paste password from that file whenever required.

If possible use a Password Manager program which encrypts them like KeepPass.

If you put a check in the ‘Remember me on this computer’ check box others may be able to login to your account. DO NOT DO THIS ON A PUBLIC COMPUTER where others have access to the machine and will be able to login to your account

Click the box to Enable Web History if you want your search to be available to Google.

Choose a Security question

Do not choose a question like “What is my Mother’s name’ as the answer to that will be known to others.

For best security Choose “Write my own question.”

Type in the Answer.

Type in a secondary email. This address is used to authenticate your account should you ever encounter problems or forget your password. If you do not have another email address, you may leave this field blank.

Do not choose your company email here because if you were to leave the job you will not have access to it.

Choose your location

Type in the Word Verification.

Review the Terms of Service

Click on “I accept. Create my account.” button.

If all fields have been filled correctly your account will be created and you will be logged in.
